In attention of Mr. Dumitru Vasile, mayor of Sanduleni:
\"Ruºine/Shame:
In Coman, a ceangai/csángó village of comuna Sanduleni the mayor and the primary school director together made impossible the start of Hungarian lessons at school on the first day of tuition year 2007/08. As known, the inhibitants of this village speak Hungarian as their native tongue though are not allowed to enjoy education and clerical services in Hungarian which in controversial to the constitution of Romania.
The mayor and the school director visited the families who asked for native language education for their children at school one by one and threatened them by telling them obvious lies. The leader and the local teacher of the Hungarian teaching program in Moldavia showed them in vain a document from the chief school-inspector of Bacau county saying Hungarian lessons at school in Coman were permitted. The mayor backed by policemen insisted: there would be no Hungarian lessons in Coman.

Do you think Mr. Mayor, things are OK like that in a democratic country like Romania? I hope in the future you will respect minority rights and the constitution of your own country. May I ask you, how old are you? You are not more living under the dictatorship of Ceausescu. Forget those times, forget those manners, forget those reflexes, forget those ways of acting and life. You and the people in your community live in a free world, in an open, free and democratic state which shares its values with such free and democratic countries as France, Great-Britain and the US. If you are a democrat, you can not threaten your people. You can not manipulate them by telling them such stupid lies. You have been chosen to a leader of your community to ensure your people a safe, prosperous and righteous life. You have definetely not been chosen to take away the rights of your people eg. the right to learn and attend mass in one\'s native language. I hope this awful situation in Coman will change soon. I regret that this case went well beyond the borders of Coman.
Yours sincerely:
